Highly Specialist SLT, Shirley Mathias and Tina Gethin, Advisory Teacher for Language and Literacy presented a fantastic poster at the Inspiring Innovation in Practice Conference. The event was held on 13 July 2017 at the Halliwell Centre in Carmarthen, Wales.
Shirley and Tina’s poster ‘Collaborative working in Pembrokeshire with a secondary school to raise attainment and pupil engagement in maths’ discussed the impact their training programme had on 6 measures of well-being and pupil engagement in maths lessons.
They were also able to discuss the importance of speech, language and communication skills to several key players in Wales, which included Bernadine Rees, chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board and Vaughan Gething, Minister for Health, Well-being and Sport.
The jointly hosted conference was attended by 150 delegates from the Wales health and education sector. It focused on how innovation, education and research through collaboration between health boards and universities across the region had informed practice. It also demonstrated the positive impact it had on patient experience and health.
